Our Linen Stories | Flax Futures
Our Linen Stories is a rolling exhibition and events series celebrating contemporary design in flax fibre and linen, drawing on Scotland’s rich industrial and trading heritage, with a focus on sustainability and regenerative textile economies. Following 3 years touring and researching from our core OLS exhibition, a series of collaborative Flax Futures take this programme forward.
In September 2024 we offer FlaxFest24, in Dunfermline and throughout Fife, a cultural celebration of flax and linen across art, design and industry in Scotland and beyond.
Since 2018, the programme has brought exhibitions and events to Fife, the Lothians, the Borders, the Highlands, N.Ireland, England and Portugal, holding a landmark exhibition at Edinburgh's Dovecot Studios in 2019/20, and Scotland's first Flax and Linen Festival in 2021.
The journey in design continues with Flax Futures, a touring exhibition and set of collaborative design projects, including community gatherings, educational outreach projects and regenerative textile network developments.
Reaching beyond borders, Our Linen Stories continues to explore Scotland’s extraordinary relationship with this quintessentially European textile, sharing stories with our partner linen nations including Ireland, Belgium, France, Austria, the Nordics and The Netherlands, and reaching across to flax and linen pioneers in North America.
