Full Circle on Design

How can design and our use of materials help us walk more lightly on the Earth? It’s a pressing question and an increasing challenge for us all. Just a week today until the latest of our Twilight Talks about Design, this time exploring Design in a Sustainable Scotland. We’ve brought together a panel of four leading speakers, each bringing their own expert perspective to our theme for the evening:

Lynn Wilson, Circular Economy Consultant, looks at the place of Design in the Circular Economy’; Trish Belford, Senior Research Fellow at Belfast School of Art, Ulster University, highlights cross-industry collaboration for ‘Linen Lace Concrete’; Marnie Collins, Assistant Professor of Textile Design at Heriot-Watt University School of Design, focuses on Textile Community in the Outer Hebrides and John Ferguson, founder of The East Africa Sisal Company, explores use of natural fibres in the construction industry.

It seems appropriate that our venue is itself a repurposed building, transforming from public baths to leading international tapestry studio. Doors open at Dovecot 5.30pm on the evening of Thursday 14th November so you can visit the allied exhibition Our Linen Stories on the Tapestry Studio Viewing Balcony before the talk begins at 6.30pm.

Twilight Talks about Design are free to attend but numbers are limited and booking in advance is recommended.

Sharing European Cultures

With a UK General Election and the Festive Season dominating December, our next Twilight Talk about Design on the theme Scotland in Europe: Sharing Cultures by Design, on Thursday 16th January 2020, the final Creative Cluster before Our Linen Stories completes this Edinburgh run on 25th January 2020.
